Department of Economics


The Department of Economics at Pontificia Javeriana is one of the most prestigious in Latin America. The faculty is currently made up of 21 full-time professors whose interests comprise of a wide variety of fields. Its research strenghts lie in Applied Microeconomics, Development Economics, and Experimental Economics. Faculty in the Department of Economics have published in a variety of presitigious academic journals including Ecological Economics, Economics Letters, Education Finance and Policy, Environment and Resource Economics, Journal of Econometrics, Journal of Politics, Labour, Mathematical Finance, Review of Economics and Statistics, and World Development. Many faculty have held or also currently hold positions in government and non-governmental organizations including central banks. The Department of Economics has two research organizations supported by the college: the Political Economy Group and the Social Policy Group.

The department offers a Bachelor's degree in economics and a Master's degree in economics, and is currently undergoing the process of establishing a PhD program. Students of the various degree programs undergo intensive training using a curriculum that emphasizes analytical rigor as well as practical relevance. Graduates from the programs are well prepared for careers in the private sector, consulting, government, and for further study in academia.
